About Taliparamba:
Taliparamba is a Municipal Corporation, Taluka and small city in Kerala state falling under the District Kannur. Kannur District is situated in the border next to Kasaragod, the border district sharting its cost with Karnataka. Taliparamba is famous for three large temples, namely Trichambaram Shree Krishna Temple, Raja Rajeshwara Temple and Vaidyanatha Temple(Kanhirangad). Theyyam Thiras are famous where theyyam, the men worn in a special attire and decorative leaves and other decorative articles wearing and the performer needs to take fast till his performance is completed. Theyyam is a traditional artistic form in North Malabar representing the favourist god, as per practice the Vannan community is performing theyyams. Theyyam readying is a very long process because a lot of decorative articles are needed to exhibit the Theyyam in its proper form. The eyes brows and eyes are blackened with the eyeliner and the face is colored with lot of colours in white, black, yellow and red. This is a very old tradition still followed in North Malabar (Kerala State).
How to Reach:
Taliparamba has nearby Airport Kannur at a distance of around 30-40 Kms. Railway Station is at Kannur and Payyannur around 20 Kms. travel. Bus is available at Taliparamba Bus stand for going to both the places on regular intervals.
Type of Land:
Soil in Taliparamba is reddish and during rainy season no soil erosion due to sturdy land type. The town is lying as a slope and if the travel starts from Payyannur there are many hills and the road is approaching Taliparamba after too many up and down.
The culture :
Taliparamba has a diverse population Hindu, Muslim and Christian and always feel proud as my own city, where I have born and boughtup. The culture of the city is mixed and the people are very helping. There is an equal population of Hindu, Muslim and Christian and in the city area mostly populated with Muslim community.
Traffic:
There is no heavy traffic or too much vehicle rush there in the city, even though in the evening when schools, colleges, offices are closed the traffic will increase, but this traffic is very light and no heavy traffic is there.
Roads:
National Highway No.66 leading from Kannur to Taliparamba feels some traffic in the evening but there is no heavy traffic on these roads. Another road starts from the Highway near Pookkoth Nada which is the main road of Taliparamba Town this road direction is north and the fish market and grocery, and vegetable markets are on the right side of the main road, which bear heavy traffic as the road is very narrow to pass two large vehicles on the same time is difficult. The vegetable and fish market in Taliparamba is very big spread around one acre area of land. The main road is approaching the Sreekandapuram and Alakode road near the culvert and another road leading to Raja Rajeshwara Temple. The highway work is going on therefore, so many service roads are in use instead of main highway roads. The highway road is now clumsy and shabby due to road work.
Food :
Taliparamba has a very vibrant food culture and the variety of foods available in hotels are very cheap and fit to the pocket of an ordinary man. Taiparamba has many good restaurants to name which serve rich food and accommodation in hotels is also superb. Non-vegetarian and vegetarian food is available in hotels and restaurants. You will feel relaxed and keep you fresh when you reach the city. Some of the Restaurants are the Royal Hotel, and Hotel Sealand are some of them.
Dress :
The normal dress of all Keralites is a Dhoti and a Shirt for men and for women Saree and Churidars. There are so many textile shops for facilitating required textile items to the visitors.
Prayer places:
There are many temples and mosques near to City that are meant for prayers, The Church is situated far from the city of Taliparamba.
CITY :
The city is a very good city and has a lot of restaurants, bars, shops, markets, textile shops, and hotels for the perfect stay.
Dharmashala Muthappan Temple is 10 Kms away from Taliparamba Town and on the way to the temple there is a snake park near to Dharmashala bus stop. Another iconic place is Elamberam Paara (Hills) which is around 40Kms.away from Taliparamba towards Alakode.
Hospitals :
In Taliparamba there are many Hospitals of small and big sizes but the famous Hospitals are Lourd Hospital and Taliparamba Government Hospital near Karimbam, Also Taliparamba Cooperative Hospital, Pariyaram Medical College and Hospital.
Colleges :
Sir Syed College is a Government College, Maharajas College, and National College are private colleges.
Schools :
Taliparamba Moothedath High School(Town), Tagore Vidyaniketan(Manna), Trichambaram School (Near Trichambaram Shree Krishna Temple) and Seethi Sahib School (Manna),
Research Institutes :
Karimbam Research Institute, and Panniyoor Pepper Research Institute are some of the famous Institutes here conducting research on Agriculture as well as on Black Pepper.
Cinema Halls:
There are 03 Cinema Halls in Taliparamba, almost all the time Malayalam and Tamil movies are running in these theatres. Classic Talkies, Alinkeel Talkies and New Harihar Talkies are the 03 Talkies available in the Town.
Crops:
Coconut is available in abundance in addition to Coconut and Arrecanut, also Rubber and Paddy are famous crops.
